Why Agate?
Agate (pronounced ‘Agar-tay’) is a gemstone that represents harmony, balance and healing.
As a grounding stone, it helps us to remain calm, rational and make better decisions. In many cultures it is believed that Agate helps open the ‘heart chakra’ to help the body function efficiently.
Many Australians feel chaotic and unbalanced when it comes to their finances. We wanted to choose a name that best represented how we can help our clients: by rebalancing, restoring and bringing long-term financial health. We see finances as being the heart of every household, allowing the rest of our lives to function well.
Agate stones also come in every colour of the rainbow, which beautifully represents that we are all unique and have different financial needs and goals. Our advice focuses on bringing your finances together to help achieve what’s important to you.
Meet our founder: Kanhai Desai

Kanhai Desai has a Bachelor of Business (Financial Markets and International Business) from RMIT University. He has completed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® practitioner (CFP®) designation through the Financial Planning Association of Australia. CFP® is an internationally recognised mark and is currently the pre-eminent representation of professional financial planners around the world. He has also completed Advanced Diploma in Financial Services and he is a member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia.

He believes financial advice is more than just creating returns, it’s about defining your dreams and then watching your goals take flight and become a reality.
Growing up, he saw his parents save diligently, even when their income was small. It taught him the power of a good budget and putting money to work for you. Now, with almost twenty years of experience in financial advice, Kanhai is passionate about creating tailored financial plans that make a real difference in our client’s lives.
In 2022, Kanhai was named in the Financial Standard’s Top 50 Most Influential Advisers nationally.
Meet our Client Relationship Manager: Akkash Jayasankar
After acquiring a Master’s Degree in Commerce, Akkash has ventured out to pursue the career of his dreams: Financial Planning.
His passion for personal finance and the difference it can make in one’s present and future life is overwhelming.
At Agate Financial Advisors, Akkash supports our clients by facilitating their tailored financial plans and by managing the admin involved in rolling them out. He loves knowing that our clients can relax, with peace of mind because our team has got it all covered.
Akkash is also a gracious humanitarian, who is generously involved in several fundraising activities, including the Cancer Foundation.
